HVAC Educator & Technical Developer

JPS is seeking a dedicated HVAC Educator & Technical Developer committed to promoting safety, excellence, and growth in all aspects of technical training. This role focuses on equipping our team with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform their work safely and effectively, while upholding our high cultural values. The ideal candidate will embody servant leadership, teamwork, and trust, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, adaptability, and professional growth.

Key Responsibilities

Training Program Development and Delivery

  • Develop, implement, and maintain educational materials for HVAC products and services training.
  • Deliver classroom, virtual, and ride along training sessions, combining theoretical knowledge with practical hands-on experiences during real world operations.
  • Ensure training programs align with current HVAC trends, codes, and JPS safety protocols.

Safety and Compliance

  • Champion safety as a top priority by embedding it into all training programs.
  • Ensure all training aligns with company policies, safety regulations, and industry best practices, including safe practices demonstrated during ride along training sessions.

Monitoring and Assessment

  • Evaluate and refine training effectiveness through assessments, feedback, and direct observation during ride-alongs with employees in the field.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of training activities, including attendance, progress, and outcomes from both classroom and ride along sessions.
  • Identify and prioritize skill gaps through ongoing observation and collaboration, addressing them with tailored initiatives that include hands-on coaching in the field.

Employee Development

  • Collaborate with management to identify skill gaps and design targeted training initiatives, ensuring employees can apply their knowledge effectively in the field.
  • Mentor and coach technicians both in the office and during ride-alongs, focusing on technical proficiency, professional growth, and adherence to safety standards.
  • Promote ongoing learning and development, encouraging employees to continuously enhance their skills through classroom and real-world training opportunities

Collaboration and Alignment

  • Partner with leadership and supervisors to ensure training programs meet current and future organizational needs, incorporating both classroom and field-based training.
  • Coordinate training schedules to include ride-alongs that minimize operational disruptions while maximizing impact for employees in the field.
  • Support cross departmental initiatives to enhance teamwork and alignment.
  • Build strong relationships across the HVAC industry, leveraging networks to enrich training programs and stay connected with industry standards.

Continuous Improvement

  • Stay informed about advancements in HVAC technology, industry trends, and code requirements, ensuring training remains relevant and impactful.
  • Demonstrate the ability to effectively use IT tools, including iPads and relevant apps, as part of training delivery both in office training and field training during ride-alongs.
  • Balance theoretical knowledge with practical application, ensuring employees receive a comprehensive learning experience
  • Foster a mindset of adaptability, encouraging employees to embrace new challenges and continuously refine their technical and professional skills.

 Onboarding

  • Facilitate the onboarding process by introducing new employees to JPS policies, values, safety protocols, and job expectations.
  • Guide new hires through training on HVAC tools, equipment, and technology to prepare them for both field and office responsibilities.
  • Participate in ride-alongs to provide hands-on guidance, evaluate skills, and address immediate training needs during the initial weeks.
  • Work with management to establish clear goals and expectations for employees during their probationary period.
  • Support new employees as a mentor, fostering confidence, skill development, and smooth integration into the JPS team.

Qualifications

  • Sheet Metal Journeyperson Ticket (mandatory and non-negotiable).
  • Dual ticketed certification is a bonus.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of residential HVAC experience (mandatory
  • Proven experience in technical training, preferably within the HVAC industry.
  • Expertise in instructional design and adult learning principles.
  • Strong IT capabilities, including the ability to use iPads and learn new apps.
  • Proficiency with training tools and platforms, including LMS systems.
  • Certification in HVAC systems or technical training (e.g., NATE certification) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Service Titan is an asset.
  • Must have a clean driver’s abstract and a valid license to operate a vehicle in Alberta
